TULSA, Okla. — The No. 15 University of Louisville men’s soccer team collected a 2-1 win over Tulsa Wednesday night in its first road match of the season.
The Cardinals shot out to a big first half lead, with Sander Roed and Gaga Guerra netting goals in the first half. They got on the board quickly, when Roed took advantage of a turnover near the midfield stripe. The senior saw the Tulsa keeper off his line and lofted a shot over his outstretched arms to give the Cards a 1-0 lead just 10 minutes in.
They double their advantage at the 27-minute mark on another long-distance strike. Guerra struck from straight on almost 30 yards out for his second goal in two matches.
Tulsa controlled possession for the latter part of the first half, breaking through in the final minute to cut the lead in half before the break.
Harvey Sellers and the Louisville defense held the lead in the second half to put the match in the win column. Sellers made four saves on the night as well as a team save in the first half in his second match at UofL.
Tulsa held the shooting advantage, outshooting the Cards 16-7 while holding a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Louisville improves to 2-0-0 on the season. Next, they face cross-town foe Bellarmine on Sept. 2 at 7 p.m. at the Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium.
