LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The No. 24 University of Louisville’s men’s soccer team kicked off the 2024 season Thursday against the Jacksonville Dolphins.

UofL came away with a 2-0 victory at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium.

The match got off to a slow start with both teams only taking five shots in the first 30 minutes. UofL changed that quickly when they scored a pair of goals in just over a minute in the first half.

Josh Jones scored Louisville’s first goal of the season in the 39th minute. A minute later, a shot was deflected and landed at the feet of Gage Guerra, who sent the ball into the back of the net, giving the Cards a 2-0 advantage.

For the rest of the match, it was all defense for the Cards. The team allowed eight shots on the night and only two were on target. Goalkeeper Harvey Sellers stopped both shots and earned his first clean sheet—a shutout—in his UofL debut.

The Cardinals had a 12-8 advantage in shots and 6-5 in corner kicks.

Louisville now hits the road for its second match when they take on the Tulsa Golden Hurricane on Wednesday, Aug. 28.
