LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Louisville college student has won the Kentucky Derby Festival Hole-In-One Golf Contest.
Sean Macfarlane was the closest to the pin, hitting his tee 10 feet 11.5 inches from the cup, and winning the $5,000 first prize. This was his first time participating in the Derby Festival golf event. He was also the last golfer in the finals to take a swing at $1 million. MacFarlane said he plans to use the winnings for a golf membership and is planning to come back next year to compete again.
No one aced Hole #8 at the Seneca Golf Course, meaning the $1 million prize is still up for grabs after over 30 years.
Fifty-five finalists took their shot at the $1 million prize. Any golfer who made a hole-in-one during the qualifying rounds automatically qualified for the finals and a shot at $1 million. Any amateur player was eligible to enter.
The preliminaries were held at the Seneca Golf Course Driving Range. The contest began April 11 and ran through April 21.
Players pay $1 for each swing, with special prices available for more than one shot on various days throughout the event.
