LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Christians will begin practicing the 40-day season of prayer and fasting , known as Lent, on Wednesday, March 5. Lent is held as preparation for the resurrection of Jesus on Easter Sunday.

The first day of Lent is Ash Wednesday and Lent ends on Holy Thursday, April 17. The 40 days of Lent represent the days Jesus spent fasting and praying in the desert.

During Lent, practicing Christians don’t eat meat on Fridays to commemorate Jesus’ sacrifice.

Parishes across Kentucky offer Lenten fish lunches and dinners on Fridays. Here is where you can find a fish fry in Louisville.
