Registration for the Derby Festival’s annual cycling experience opens Thursday, Oct. 17 at 10 a.m. The 2025 event is scheduled for Saturday, April 19.

“The PNC Tour de Lou is a unique way to experience and see Louisville during a special time of year,” said Matt Gibson, Kentucky Derby Festival president and CEO. “One of the Kentucky Derby Festival’s signature events, the ride has become a spring tradition for cyclists from around the country. We encourage participants to register early to secure their spot and get the best deals for the 2025 event.”

Organizers said participants will receive special early-bird pricing through Tuesday, Dec. 31 when they register online. The start and finish line of next year’s race will have a new home at the Lincoln Memorial Lot, offering riders picturesque views of Louisville’s Waterfront and a scenic backdrop of the post-ride party, where they’ll receive their finisher’s medal. The 2025 event will also include bike rentals for the first time courtesy of Scheller’s Fitness & Cycling. Riders will choose from a road or hybrid bike.

The 2025 Tour de Lou will offer cyclists three different distances, ranging from 20 to 62 miles. Rest stops will be located every 10 to 12 miles and include hydration, nutrition and other amenities to ensure an enjoyable experience. The Derby Festival said distances and pricing options include the following:

  • 20 Miles—Ideal for beginners or new cyclists ($50)

  • 35 Miles—Ideal for moderate to experienced riders ($60)

  • 62.1 Miles (Metric Century)—Ideal for advanced riders or those looking for a challenge ($75)

The festival is also offering a visual alternative for those who prefer to log miles at their own pace. It is $40, and riders can still choose to complete the 20-, 35- or 62.1-mile distance.

All cyclists will receive a medal, event shirt and invitation to a post-race party. Those 21 and older will enjoy a post-race beer from West Sixth Brewing while cheering on fellow riders at the finish line.

The Derby Festival and title sponsor PNC are once again offering a free training program to help riders gear up for race day. Riders can also register for the six-week PNC Tour de Lou Training Program, offered through the Louisville Bike Club, beginning Oct. 17. All training rides will occur Sundays at noon from March 2 through April 6, 2025, and rides will increase by five miles every few weeks. They will begin at the Waterfront Park Yellow Parking Lot on River Road; all cyclists will need a helmet, in addition to a bicycle.

Visit the Derby Festival’s website for more information on the race and how to register.
