BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Kentucky State Police shared its findings on the officer involved shooting investigation involving Bowling Green Police Officer Matt Davis. Davis and another man were shot on July 6.

The man, Esteban Lowery, was killed in the shooting. Davis was in critical condition for his injuries.

According to KSP, Davis responded to a complaint at the Car-Mart on Russellville Road in Bowling Green. Police said while Davis was investigating, Lowery produced a handgun from his waistband and pointed it at Davis. Davis tried to deflect the gun and create distance between himself and Lowery. KSP says, Lowery then fired several times, hitting Davis.

The report continued saying when additional Bowling Green Police Department officers arrived, they found Lowery unresponsive. First responders performed life-saving measures on both Lowery and Davis. Lowery was taken to the Medical Center in Bowling Green, where he was pronounced dead.

Davis was flown to Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn., for treatment of multiple gunshot wounds.

The BGPD requested the investigation by state police.

In late July, Davis was still in the hospital receiving care. BGPD shared an update at the time, saying Davis had received his first session on physical therapy and was in good spirits and has a positive outlook on his recovery and continues to be able to do a little more each day, the department shared on Facebook.
