Examiners completed the examiniation on May 18, 2024 but have not yet released a cause of death. Additional testing is being conducted.
According to the Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI), at 3:26 p.m., officers with the Beloit Police Department responded to a 911 call about a stabbing in the 2000 block of Frederick Street in the City of Beloit.
Officers found an adult female who had been stabbed when they arrived at the scene. Officers also saw a suspect who had “an edged weapon” and “was making violent threats to harm a second individual believed to be in the residence.”
According to the DOJ, one of the responding officers tried to stop the suspect by using a “less lethal option, but it was ineffective.”
Another officer then shot the suspect, now identified as Tracy.
Life-saving measures were done on the suspect, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The DOJ said it was later determined that no one else was at the residence at the time of the incident. The “edged weapon” was found at the scene.
The female victim was taken to the hospital and transferred to a trauma center. The DOJ said she was in stable condition.
A law enforcement officer sustained minor injuries from the incident and was treated, per the DOJ.
The officers involved were placed on administrative leave, per agency policy. The officers were wearing body cameras during the incident.
The DOJ DCI is leading an investigation into this incident, along with the Rock County Medical Examiner's Department. DCI said all involved law enforcement are cooperating.
