MILWAUKEE — The Milwaukee Public Market gained national notoriety Wednesday in USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice awards.

It was ranked as the best public market in the U.S. by an expert panel and reader votes.

Located in the Historic Third Ward, the Milwaukee Public Market first opened in 2005. There are 19 vendors in the market, ranging from coffee to local bites to a sausage and cheese shop.

The market recently added new member, Freese’s Candy Shoppe. It replaced Kehr’s Candies, which held the spot for 18 years and vacated at the end of February.

Milwaukee’s market also hosts events in the space, such as cooking classes and private parties.

This isn’t the first recognition of the market. In 2018, it was recognized as the best “Place to Eat Alone” by the Shepherd Express.

It’s open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
