Tanya Velázquez is a bilingual multimedia journalist at Spectrum News 1 Ohio.
Tanya is a proud Texan. Her reporting journey began at UT Austin where she pursued two bachelor's degrees in Journalism and Latin American Studies with minors in Spanish and Human Rights & Social Justice. Tanya worked at several local news stations as a student, including CBS Austin, Telemundo Austin, KUT (NPR) and Spectrum News 1 Texas, covering topics most critical to the community.
After completing the Spectrum News Fellowship, a program to introduce journalism students to Spectrum’s newsrooms, with Spectrum News in Austin, Tanya moved across the country to Ohio where she is currently reporting on cultural issues and the economy. A daughter of Mexican immigrant parents, Tanya also frequently produces reports in Spanish, uplifting the stories of the Hispanic and Latino population in northeast Ohio.
When she's not out in the field, you can find Tanya getting her groove on at local dance studios (salsa is her current favorite), going to the gym, listening to podcasts, trying new food recipes, reading books, and exploring new cities across the globe.
You can further connect with Tanya at her email Tanya.Velazquez@charter.com, on X @TanyaVelazquez, and Instagram at @TanyaVelazquez_.
