ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. — The Commonwealth was hit with back-to-back snowstorms. Friday’s storm wasn’t as severe as the one on Sunday, however, there is still a lot of snow on the ground. Clean-up crews across the state have been working long hours to clear up roads.
Elizabethtown city workers plowed and shoveled away snow from the sidewalks of the city’s downtown square on Saturday morning. A resident told Spectrum News 1 that he has been pleased with the city’s response to the recent snowstorms.
“Overall, the city’s done a really good job keeping everything safe,” said Matthew Willis, who is originally from Elizabethtown and a shift lead at the local café ‘Vibe Coffee’.
He has noticed that business has been spotty because of the storms.
“Things were a lot slower, Sunday especially, but this week it’s been a lot busier overall, like, slow compared to normal but it’s still busier this week than last week,” Willis said. “I kinda think that people are kinda tired of being cooped inside and so they’re coming out a little bit more so it’s been good.”
Because of the city’s efforts to clear the roads, people have been able to make their way to the downtown area.
“They have had the roads cleared both times within hours of the snow starting,” Willis said.
Though it was cold on Saturday, the sidewalks in the downtown square had been cleared and salted for people to walk around and enjoy what’s offered there, like stopping at Vibe Coffee or grabbing a bite to eat at one of the local restaurants.
