LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A second winter storm in a week had residents across Kentucky searching for supplies like salt, ice melt, shovels and sleds.
Joe Lilly with Brownsboro Hardware and Paint said his store has been busy.
“We just got in another small shipment of ice melt and shovels. And those have been the prime items along with sleds,“ said Lilly.
Before his employees could get the latest shipment of items loaded in the store, shoppers were waiting and ready to buy.
“I called earlier today. And they said they were out of salt, but were going to get some within an hour. So, I came, parked my car and here we are. There was a long line and I believe they are now almost out,” said shopper Ben Bass.
Finding salt was not an easy mission.
“Lowes and Home Depot were sold out,” said Bass.
However, Lilly said they are ready to help their customers find the supplies they need.
“With a lot of big box stores, they get a certain allotment and then they can’t get anymore. We go wherever we can to whatever source we can to get as much as we can,” said Lilly.
The hardest items to find are shovels.
“We’ve never had an experience like this where shovels have been so hard to find. The first set of shovels that came in [and] people were waiting for them and they took the parts. They didn’t want to wait to have them assembled,” he said.
Once employees got the shovels assembled and ready to go, it doesn’t expect them to be on shelves long.
“They too will be gone in a couple of hours,” said Lilly.
