LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Louisville women’s soccer team remains undefeated this season after beating UT Martin 2-0 Thursday at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium.
For the first time since 2019, the Cards haven’t lost a match in the first seven games.
The defense put the pressure on and kept Skyhawks from scoring. They tied a season low with just one shot allowed during the entire game and the first game of the season UofL didn’t allow a shot on goal the entire game.
For the coach Karen Ferguson-Dayes’ offense, it was the fifth multi-goal game. Karsyn Cherry scored for the third-straight game and leads the Cards with five goals this season. Gianna Angelillo knocked in her first career goal to get UofL on the board. It happened during the final minute of the first half when Amelia Swinarski got the ball and played it into the open space for Angelillo, who got it to the back of the net for a halftime lead of 1-0. She is the 10th Cardinal to score so far this season.
Louisville had a 6-1 shot advantage in the first half.
In the second half, the Cards went up 2-0 in the 48th minute. The Cards sent a corner kick long and Brooklyn Lee brought it in and her cross back into the box found Cherry’s head and she scored her team-best fifth goal of the season. Lee got credit for her first career assist.
The Cards will put a bow on their three-game home stand on Sunday. UofL welcome the Dayton Flyers to Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium for a 7 p.m. match which will be streamed on the ACC Network. This is the last home game for the team until Sept. 29.
