LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The No. 15 Louisville men’s soccer team (3-0-0) will hold city bragging rights after notching a 3-1 victory over crosstown foe Bellarmine (1-2-0) on Sept. 2 at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium.

The Cardinals got a first half goal from Sander Roed, and two second half tallies from Jack Lewis and Ethan Subachan on the way to their third straight win this season. 

The Louisville keeper, Harvey Sellers, stayed perfect in goal, stopping two of three on-target shots for his third win. The Cardinals dominated the first half of possession, but Louisville was only able to convert one goal in the first 45 minutes of the match.

At 23 minutes, Lewis found Gage Guerra in the box, who played it on the ground to Roed, who blasted a right foot shot into the back of the net. It was Roed’s second goal in as many matches.

The Knights outshot the Cards 10-2 in the first half, but were unable to convert a goal.

The second half was a similar story, with Louisville dominating possession but having trouble finding the net. Bellarmine hit the equalizer in the 64th minute, scoring off a long throw from the right sideline.

Less than two minutes later, the Cardinals retook the lead. TJ Kahoalii crossed the ball into the box for Chase Vazquez, who passed it off to Lewis at the top of the box. The freshmen hit a left-footed shot inside the right post for his first collegiate goal.

In the waning minutes of the match, Subachan sealed the win with Louisville’s third goal of the night.

Over 90 minutes, the Cardinals outshot Bellarmine 20-7 and held a 10-1 advantage on corner kicks.

Louisville will take on Notre Dame in their first conference match of the season Friday night. The Irish are last season’s national runner-up. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium.
