LEXINGTON, Ky. — Kentucky women's soccer continued its hot start to the 2024 season Aug. 25, defeating Jacksonville State 4-1 and extending its win streak to four games.
Maddie Kemp led the offense with two goals while Mia Bookhard and Makala Woods also found the back of the net. The Wildcats outshot the Gamecocks 22-6, with 12 of them coming on goal.
Woods got the scoring started in the 23rd minute with her second goal of the season off an assist from Thalia Morisi, her first as a Wildcat.
Bookhard then extended the team's lead to 2-0 in the 40th minute. She found the ball at her feet in the center of the box after a scramble where she opened her body to side-foot it into the far right corner for her first of the season and the 10th goal of her career. The Wildcats had the chance to extend their lead to 3-0 in the 45th minute on a penalty kick for a foul in the box; however, Jacksonville State goalkeeper Poppy Bastock stopped the shot.
Just five minutes into the second half, Woods was brought down in the box, and Kentucky earned its second penalty. The Wildcats were able to convert as Kemp scored her first goal in a UK uniform. Kemp then added some insurance in the 84th minute when Morisi found the graduate student midfielder/forward on the right side of the goalpost.
Coming off a four-match homestand, Kentucky will look to maintain its perfect start Saturday, Aug. 31 at Illinois. Kickoff is 3 p.m. EDT.
