LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Former University of Louisville placekicker John Wallace died Wednesday. He was 31.
UofL made the announcement, but did not give a cause of death.
Wallace, a native of Elizabethtown, played high school football at Central Hardin High School. He was a two-star prospect by Rivals.com and made 11-of-14 field goals as a senior.
He played for the Cardinals from 2012 until 2015 under head coaches Charlie Strong and Bobby Petrino. Wallace helped UofL to four-straight bowl appearances, including a win over Florida in the 2013 Sugar Bowl. He kicked a pair of field goals in the 33-23 victory over the Gators.
In 2012, Wallace was 16-of-21 and made 10 of his first 11 kicks to start the season. His only miss was a 57-yard attempt. In that same year, he kicked a 30-yard field goal, giving the Cards a 34-31 overtime win against Cincinnati.
Wallace still holds the record at UofL with 66 field goals made during his four seasons at Louisville.
He is the son of Carla and Patrick Wallace and was a finance major at UofL.
