LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A summertime staple in Louisville is set to return. From classical to rock to jazz, the complete entertainment lineup has been released for the Iroquois Amphitheater's 86th season.
The season kicks off Friday, June 14 with a nine-show run of "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat." Also among the highlights are the two-day Louisville Jazz Fest Aug. 2-3, the Flaming Lips, Louisville Philharmonia and Straight No Chaser.
Mayor Craig Greenberg, D-Louisville, made the announcement April 23 during his Weekly Louisville update with District 15 Councilwoman Jennifer Chappell and ACT Louisville productions founder and director Beth Hall.
“Iroquois is an incredible park, beloved by all of Louisville, and I am excited to stand here today with folks from across our city who make this space so special,” Greenberg said. “The 86th season at Iroquois Amphitheater offers an amazing lineup for everyone across our city to enjoy, and I am grateful to everyone who is working so hard to make events like these possible. Make sure to get out and enjoy this upcoming season."
“This iconic venue has been a beacon of cultural expression bringing together the finest talents in music, theatre, dance and beyond,” Chappell said. “For over eight decades, this gem of South Louisville has reminded us that arts have the ability to inspire, uplift and unite. Without a doubt, there is something for everyone to enjoy at Iroquois Amphitheater this season.”
The amphitheater is also hosting three "Free Summer Movies" events before much of the entertainment kicks off. The lineup includes the following showings: "Paw Patrol" and "The Little Mermaid" (Saturday, April 27); "Spirit" and "Racing Stripes" (Wednesday, May 1) and "A Hard Day's Night" and "Yesterday" (Wednesday, May 22). Gates for each event open at 6 p.m., with the first movie starting at 7 p.m. and the second 30 minutes after the first. No outside food or beverage is allowed.
