KENTUCKY — After a taste of late spring this week, things will get quite bumpy by the weekend.

What You Need To Know

  • Two chances for rain & storms
  • All modes of severe weather possible
  • Cooler and calmer on Sunday

A very strong storm system is expected to bring the threat of strong to severe thunderstorms to the region. The first will be late Friday night into early Saturday morning as a line of unsettled weather is expected to be crossing the state. This line could have embedded strong to severe thunderstorms within it. The best chance to see a storm will be in areas west of I-65 in the overnight hours of Friday into early Saturday. The storms should be weakening as they approach the I-65 corridor by Saturday morning.

There will be a lull in the action Saturday morning into the early afternoon before more storminess is expected to fire up. Once again all modes of severe weather will be possible, including a few spin-up tornadoes, but very large hail and strong, damaging winds would be the largest threat Saturday afternoon and into the evening. Highs on Saturday will be warm once again, topping out in the mid 70s.

Once the system passes by, cooler air can be expected on Sunday, along with a few remaining showers and sprinkles. Expect clouds to clear throughout the day with highs reaching the mid to upper 50s and lower 60s.
