MEET YOUR D.C. REPORTER

Erin Kelly joined the Spectrum News 1 team as anchor/reporter in December 2020 and reports on Kentucky’s politics and people, with a focus on the opioid crisis.

She is grateful to be able to meet Kentuckians across the commonwealth and share their stories. Her approach to every story is to listen with empathy, get it right and be fair.

Her broadcast and print reporting career began in 2011 and has taken her to newsrooms in Mississippi, Virginia and Alabama.

Erin reported extensively on the 2011 Mississippi River flood, the hate crime murder of James Craig Anderson, the corruption trial of former Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell and a 2019 tornado that killed 23 people in Alabama.

She was named the 2019 CNHI Division II Reporter of the Year and wrote the main story for a team report on a child neglect case that was awarded the 2019 Mississippi Press Association’s Bill Minor Prize for Investigative Journalism for Daily Newspapers.

Erin calls Annapolis, Md., home and loves to cook, run, and shop for used records. On the weekends, you can find her at the dog park, farmers market or her favorite breakfast spot, Blue Dog Bakery.
