As we close out the month of June and head into July, we're turning up the heat and humidity across Wisconsin. A strong blocking pattern (called an "Omega Block" since it resembles the Greek letter Omega) has set up across the United States with low pressure over the east and west coasts and a ridge of high pressure over the country's midsection.

This blocking pattern will linger through the week, causing a surge in heat and humidity around the Great Lakes. Shower and thunderstorm chances will also go up for the afternoons.

High temperatures will climb into the 80s to near 90 degrees with heat index values in the lower 90s through the upcoming Fourth of July holiday weekend. Dew point temperatures in the 70s will add a steamy feel to the air over the next several days.

If you're planning on spending time outdoors this week, make sure you're prepared for the heat. Sunglasses and sunscreen are a must, as well as water to keep yourself hydrated. Be sure to wear light, loose-fitting clothing and take frequent breaks while exercising.

The Summer heat looks to continue well into next week with temperatures remaining in the 80s and 90s around Wisconsin.
