A lot of people have plans heading into the holiday weekend. We're here to help you better plan out the next few days.

What You Need To Know

  • Snow continues for parts of the state into Saturday

  • Strong wind with wind gusts up to 50mph

  • Blowing snow could cause whiteout conditions Friday

  • Frigid cold air drops wind chills anywhere from -20 to -40

Here's a look at all the winter weather alerts in place across Wisconsin through Saturday. A lot going on so let me breakdown everything you see.

A Winter Storm Warning will be in effect for the majority of Wisconsin through Saturday morning.

A Blizzard Warning will be in place through Saturday for northwestern and western portions of Wisconsin.

Although those counties under a Blizzard Warning will be more likely to see widespread blowing snow and whiteout conditions, those under a Winter Storm Warning will still see blowing snow that will reduce visibility.

On top of that, arctic air settles in to the Badger State. Wind chills Friday ranging anywhere from -20 to -40. If you have to be out and about, limit your time outdoors, dress in layers and make sure to cover all exposed skin in order to prevent frostbite.

If you can avoid traveling Friday, I'd highly recommend doing so. Blowing snow greatly reducing visibility at times on top of brutally cold air will make it difficult for travel and dangerous if stuck.

Although the snow will be gone by Saturday (unless you live in far north-central Wisconsin), patchy blowing snow will still be a concern during the afternoon with wind gusts up to 45 mph. Fortunately, by Sunday, the weather turns quiet, and we'll be left with a white Christmas.

So what should you take away from all this information?

  • Avoid travel Friday due to poor visibility throughout day
  • More snow falls in far northern Wisconsin and along the lakefront
  • Strong wind plus snow creates blowing snow that could create whiteout conditions.
  • Brutally cold starting Friday with wind chills ranging from -20 to -40.
  • The weather turns quiet for Christmas in Wisconsin.
