LAKE GENEVA, Wis. — The winter attraction from the creators of Ice Castles, known as Winter Realms, won’t return to Lake Geneva this year.

Officials said the decision was made to take a break after record-breaking warm weather has kept the exhibition from succeeding in the last few years.

“It has been a true pleasure to host our enchanting winter attraction at Geneva National, where we have had the joy of creating lasting memories for families and friends over the years. We are incredibly thankful for the support received and the happiness we have shared with the thousands of guests,” said Kyle Standifird, CEO of Ice Castles, in a release.

Officials with Ice Castles said they will spend the next year working on a new concept to bring to the city in the future.

Winter Realms was a fresh take on Ice Castles introduced last year. Guests could enjoy a secluded Arctic Alcove, warm up at the Polar Pub and more. It was forced to close early last year due to unseasonably warm temperatures.

Before that, the region had Ice Castles. In 2023, the creators were faced with similar troubles. That exhibit only lasted three days after warm weather caused the castles to melt. In the past, the winter wonderland was open in mid- to late-January, running for about four weeks. However, in the 2023, the team wasn’t able to open the Ice Castles until Feb. 4.

Ice Castles ran for five years and Winter Realms for one in Lake Geneva. The event runs in several other states and has plans for Colorado, Minnesota, New Hampshire and Utah this year.
