LAKE GENEVA, Wis. — If you didn’t hit Ice Castles in Lake Geneva, Wis. yet this season, your plans to do so have melted away — literally.

The Ice Castles team took to Facebook on Thursday to announce that after a short, three-day run, Wisconsin’s Ice Castles is closed for the season.

“Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate. Over the last 3 days, the castle has melted beyond repair. Our location in Lake Geneva will not be able to reopen,” the Facebook post read.

Ice Castles already got off to a slippery start this year. In the past, Ice Castles has opened in Lake Geneva in mid- to late-January, running for about four weeks. This year, due to warm weather, Ice Castles was not able to open until Feb. 4.

A team of ice artisans began building this year’s Ice Castle display before Christmas, but with warm weather throughout the end of December and into January, they lost nearly 70% of their build. The team was able to work overtime toward the end of January and into February to get the display ready for the season.

Even so, the temps did not stay low enough.

“We always say that Ice Castles is a delicate dance with Mother Nature. Sadly, this winter she didn’t feel like dancing,” the Facebook post continued.

Those who already purchased tickets should monitor their email for information on refunds.
