WISCONSIN — Months after health care providers Prevea Health and Hospital Sisters Health System (HSHS) began to shutter their hospitals and clinics across western Wisconsin, another provider called OakLeaf Clinics continues to expand to fill the void.
OakLeaf Clinics opened of its new clinic Wednesday in Rice Lake, Wis.
"Everyone's supper excited," said Kaley Wilson, an advanced practice nurse prescriber with OakLeaf Clinics in Rice Lake. "I think everyone was in complete shock when Prevea and HSHS announced what was going on. My biggest concern was the fear for the patients. To me, it was like a state of emergency."
Wilson also called on the legislature and Gov. Tony Evers to work together to help support more communities impacted by the health care closures financially.
"The money is there. We just need it to leave those hands and get it into our hands to help those patients," Wilson said.
