MILWAUKEE — A new documentary about Giannis Antetokounmpo will be released Monday, Feb. 19 on Prime Video.

Giannis: The Marvelous Journey” will be available to stream in more than 240 countries and territories around the world.

The film “chronicles the extraordinary odyssey of NBA mega-star Giannis Antetokounmpo from an impoverished childhood in Greece as the son of Nigerian immigrants to the very top of the basketball world.”

Antetokounmpo’s parents immigrated to Greece from Nigeria. He was at an internet cafe one day when he “was captivated by images of NBA stars.” Then, he started to play basketball. Little did he know he would become a global phenomenon, find a new home in Wisconsin and lead the Milwaukee Bucks to a championship.

The documentary includes interviews with Antetokounmpo, his mother Veronica Antetokounmpo, brothers Thanasis, Kostas and Alex Antetokounmpo and his fiancee Mariah Riddlesprigger. It’s the first time the Antetokounmpo family “has given first-person accounts on their collective journey.”

Fellow basketball players Jason Kidd, Khris Middleton, Jrue Holiday, Kenny Smith, Vin Baker and Ernie Johnson were also interviewed.

“Giannis: The Marvelous Journey” was produced by Improbable Media and Words + Pictures. Improbable Media was co-founded by the Antetokounmpo brothers and Jay Williams. The documentary will be the company’s first feature-length film.
