MILWAUKEE — As Giannis Antetokounmpo works to turn the page on the Atlanta Hawks and advance to the NBA Finals for the first time, readers will soon get to turn the page on Giannis himself.
"I wrote a story about him and his younger brother Alex for Bleacher Report, and it was such a special story," Mirin Fader, author of the upcoming book, "Giannis: The Improbable Rise of an NBA MVP," said. "You spend a couple minutes with both of them, you see the chemistry they have, you see that family is everything to Giannis, so I just thought, 'This is a book. This is more than a 4,000 word story."'
Fader promised that the book, which is available now for pre-sale and set to hit store shelves in August, will provide stories and context about the NBA MVP that even hardcore Milwaukee Bucks fans may not know about.
"I think people don't really know much between grew-up-poor and becomes-an-NBA-MVP, right?" Fader said. "I think there's missing storytelling between that whole moment and I think his story's been framed as a fairytale because it is in so many ways, but he dealt with really awful racism growing up-- there were a lot of people that did not wish him well..."
