WISCONSIN — The Memorial Day weekend is here and cities across the Badger State are holding ceremonies and observations in honor of the holiday.

The following events are all being held Monday.

Milwaukee area

Milwaukee

Field of Flags

6 p.m. | Veterans Park

Volunteers will be placing 15,015 flags at Veterans Park near the War Memorial Center to honor the number of Wisconsinites killed in action.

Memorial Day Ceremony

9:25 a.m. | Wood National Cemetery

There will be a pre-ceremony concert from the Milwaukee American Legion Band beginning at 9 a.m.

Memorial Day at Forest Home Cemetery

11 a.m. | Forest Home Cemetery

The event starts with a memorial service in the Ferry and Clas chapel, followed by a wreath-laying ceremony in the Garden of Honor. Food will also be available for purchase.

Memorial Day Celebration

Noon | Crossroads Collective

Live music, a veteran fundraiser, outdoor pop-ups and more will be held throughout the day.

Mukwonago

Mukwonago Memorial Day Parade

9:30 a.m. | Park View Middle School

The Mukwonago Memorial Day Parade will begin at Park View Middle School and head to Washington Park, with a ceremony at the end of the parade at the Mukwonago Community Library.

New Berlin

Memorial Day Ceremony

11 a.m. | Highland Memorial Park Cemetery

Members of VFW Post 5716 will perform their Memorial Ritual Service, including a rifle salute. Commander David Chappell will also speak. Weather permitting, there will also be a flyover of World War II planes.

Waukesha

Memorial Day Celebration

8 a.m. | various locations

The city is hosting several events this Memorial Day. There will be an Avenue of Flags at Prairie Home Cemetery at 8 a.m. at 605 S. Prairie Ave. At 9 a.m., there will be a river service at the Barstow Plaza, 141 N.W. Barstow St. At 10:15 a.m., a parade will step off from 141 NW Barstow St., and proceed down Main Street to Maple Avenue, before ending at Park Avenue. After the parade, the city will host a Memorial Day service beginning at 11 a.m. at Cutler Park.

West Allis

Memorial Day Observance Ceremony

11 a.m. | Veterans Memorial Park

The ceremony will feature patriotic songs sung by the Nathan Hale Choir, a flag ceremony, a rifle salute, a Taps performance, a veterans tribute and more.

Racine

Racine Memorial Day Parade

10 a.m. | various locations

The parade steps off at Lindermann Avenue and West Boulevard and proceeds north on West Boulevard, north on Osborne Boulevard and ends at Graceland Cemetery, 3547 Osborne Blvd. A ceremony will follow at 11 a.m. at the cemetery.

Madison area

Avenue of Flags

2 p.m. | Sunset Memory Gardens

The annual program will include an invocation, a Sunset Memory Gardens roll call, placing of a memorial wreath, a Memorial Day address by a military officer, a departed veterans roll call and more. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own chairs.

The Songs of Our Heroes

2 p.m.| The Edgewater Hotel

Local heroes will share their service stories and there will be performances by Sean Michael Dargan & the Talented Lads and That Jazz Classic Big Band. The concert will feature the soundtracks of World War II, the Korean War, Vietnam and the Gulf War. Food and beverage available for purchase and a portion of the proceeds from this event will go to the University of Wisconsin’s Missing in Action Recovery and Identification Project.

Cross Plains

Cross Plains Memorial Day Chicken BBQ

11 a.m. | American Legion Post 245

The Cross Plains Area Chamber of Commerce and American Legion Unit 245’s parade leads to Legion Park. Immediately following the ceremony, there will be chicken, hot dogs, a beer stand and more in the park.

Sun Prarie

Sun Prairie American Legion Post 333 Memorial Day Parade & Ceremony

10 a.m. | Post 333

The parade will start at Kroncke Drive and end at VFW 9362 and the Sun Prairie Veterans Memorial. It will have local community members that have served in the military. Following the parade there will be a ceremony at Post 333, and the Auxiliary will cook up hot dogs, hamburgers and more for purchase afterwards.

Monona

Memorial Day Parade

10 a.m. | Monona Drive

The 66th annual Memorial Day Parade will take place along Monona Drive, starting at Monona Grove High School and going south. It ends at noon.

Green Bay area

Green Bay

Memorial Day Green Bay Botanical Garden

9 a.m. | Green Bay Botanical Garden

Veterans and military personnel enjoy free admission at the Garden, including access to our new Carol & Bruce Bell Children’s Garden.

Memorial Day Cook Out

1 p.m. | The Job Site Tavern

The local bar will have burgers, brats and drink specials throughout the day.

Appleton

Appleton Memorial Day Parade & Ceremony

9 a.m. | Riverside Cemetery and Chapel Appleton

The parade steps off from the corner of College Ave. and Appleton St., heads east on College Ave. to Meade St., north on Meade St. to Pacific St., east on Pacific St. to the entrance of Appleton’s historic Riverside Cemetery. Immediately following the parade will be the annual “Moment of Remembrance” Ceremony inside the cemetery.

Manitowoc

Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony

9 a.m. | downtown Manitowoc

The parade will end at Veteran’s Memorial on N. 18th Street and will be followed by a ceremony across from Evergreen Cemetery.

Across Wisconsin

Eau Claire

Memorial Day Parade

9:30 a.m. | Wilson Park

The Memorial Day Parade will start in Wilson Park and end in the Haas Fine Arts parking lot. A program will follow at Owen Park.

Sparta

Memorial Day Parade

10:30 a.m. | Water Street

The Memorial Day parade will travel north on Water Street, then east on Montgomery Street to Blyton Park. After the parade, a ceremony will be held at the park. Wreaths will be laid on Perch Lake at the VFW after the ceremony.

Wausau

Memorial Day Remembrance Program

11 a.m. | Restlawn Memorial Park

The Remembrance Service and Program will feature American Legion Dudley Post 10, a guest speaker and patriotic bagpipe music.
