WISCONSIN — While traditional winter activites in the southern part of the state are hit-and-miss right now thanks to above average temperatures and below average snowfall, it's quite a different story up north.

"We got real lucky real early," said Krystal Westfahl, the executive director of Let’s Minocqua Visitors Bureau + Chamber of Commerce. "We're full of snow, that's for sure."

While the state as a whole saw tourism fade during the early part of the pandemic, Minocqua and surrounding communities have continued to have a tourism surge over the past few years, as people came to the Northwoods to both get away from crowded places and take in the great outdoors.

"We're one of the top resources in terms of water and outdoor activities," Westfahl said. "In the winter, all of that turns into ice, so if you want to ice fish, if you want to go skating — we have a pond hockey tournament coming up — we've got all sorts of snowmobiling and cross-country skiing, and the trails here are wonderful."
