PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — The U.S. Geological Survey recorded a 3.3-magnitude earthquake in the southeast corner of the state on Monday.
It was just two miles northwest of Chesapeake in Lawrence County, Ohio and occurred at 9:39 a.m. with a depth of more than 14 miles below the surface, according to USGS.
Chesapeake is just across the Ohio River from Huntington, West Virginia. According to the USGS's Community Interest Intensity Map, the earthquake was felt in Portsmouth, Ironton and parts of West Virginia. The shaking was rated as mostly light, but one part of West Virginia said it was close to moderate.
