SANDUSKY, Ohio — The weather is warming; the sun is out and visitors will soon pack the Cedar Point amusement park for its opening day of its 155th summer season on May 4.
And this year, there’s a new coaster in town, the Top Thrill 2, which the park touts as the “world’s tallest and fastest triple-launch roller coaster.”
The park has now released some of the safety information and rider requirements for their new 420-foot high and 120mph ride, likely a bit stricter than what riders are used to.
Here are just some of the safety requirements, with all the specifics listed here:
- Riders must be 52 inches tall
- Seat restraint must be able to be lowered completely, touching the top of your thighs
- Glasses can be worn if using a strap to keep secure
- Shoes without straps or backs cannot go past entrance, and you cannot wait in line barefoot or leave shoes at the entrance
- Riders will enter through a metal detector at entrance and no loose items like car keys or cellphones are allowed past the entrance
- Waist packs or zip pockets also cannot be used for loose items, which cannot come past the entrance.
A post on the park’s website notes that the safety guidelines underwent revision after testing and landed on the strict no loose article policy.
“Due to the later revision, the integration of lockers into the queue, similar to those at Steel Vengeance, was not possible,” the post reads. “We encourage riders to leave any loose articles with a non-rider. If you wish to rent a locker, they will be near the entrance for a nominal fee.”
While the ride officially debuts on Saturday, May 4, there will be a number of special preview events set aside in the days leading up to the opening for special events, some of which have already sold out and some of which are available to Gold or Summer passholders.
The full list of preview events is available here.
