AKRON, Ohio — Anyone who’s lived awhile in Akron likely is familiar with the name “Scinta” from the many years the Scintas headlined at the Sultan's Cabaret at the iconic Tangier.
Tangier and the Cabaret are now the LeBron James Family Foundation’s House Three Thirty, which is bringing “The Showman" Frankie Scinta back to the Cabaret’s intimate stage for a two-night musical engagement starting at 8 p.m. Friday, June 16 and 8 p.m. Saturday, June 17. Tickets are available online.
Scinta’s performance marks the return of headlining shows to the Cabaret, which was renovated to retain much of its former ambience when the multi-level facility was transformed to House Three Thirty over the past couple years, the foundation said in a release.
The orchestral performance at the Cabaret will showcase the entertainer’s vocal and instrumental talents as he performs current and classic hits, while melding comedic repartee and impressions throughout the evening, organizers said.
Scinta’s return to the Cabaret will begin “a new era” of live performances there, said LeBron James Family Foundation Executive Director Michele Campbell.
“He’s been a fan-favorite in Akron for so long, we can think of no better way to welcome our community back into the Cabaret for this one-of-a-kind experience we know will be the first of many memorable musical acts to come this summer and beyond,” Campbell said.
Scinta, who began performing as a child in Buffalo, N.Y., began touring with family members more than 40 years ago as “The Scintas,” often booking multi-week performances at Tangier.
Scinta later moved to Las Vegas where he performs as a solo artist performing at the Rio, the Las Vegas Hilton, the Sahara and the D, according to his bio.
House Three Thirty is a multi-purpose job-training facility, designed to extend programming for the foundation’s I Promise School students and their families, and offer opportunity and entertainment for the Akron community, the foundation has said.
Many of House Three Thirty’s amenities are sponsored by foundation partners, including the Kaulig Companies, which sponsors the Kaulig Companies Club, offering VIP views of the Cabaret performance area, the foundation said.
House Three Thirty is located at 532 W. Market St. just outside downtown Akron. The facility is two blocks from the I Promise School and adjacent to the I Promise Village, which provides transitional housing for I Promise families dealing with homelessness.
