You may have noticed a 14 foot sculpture sitting inside of the Columbus Convention Center. You may have even tried it yourself.
"It's people, right? I think we're so good at seeing each other's faces that this is really a new way of looking at people," Matthew Mohr said.
Mohr is the artist behind "As We Are". The scultpure shares 30,000 faces, lit by 850,000 LED bulbs.
“You can't really hide on a sculpture this size. You have to sort of acknowledge that you're putting yourself out there and that's what you get," he said.
Mohr said his piece democratizes art, by putting you in it while also asking a question of social media.
“It's putting it in your face and it's asking, 'Is this okay? Is this what we should be doing?' Maybe it is. There is a lot of good things about social media. At the same time, I want to really magnify that and say that there are some things to be concerned about it," Mohr said.
The next time you pass by, feel free to step inside and have your face turned into a monumental work of art. Some best practices include avoiding masks and hats and also removing glasses.
