COLUMBUS, Ohio — A new exhibit is coming to COSI starting this weekend, and it's taking "Shark Week" to a whole new level.
The Sharks exhibit will begin welcoming visitors starting this Saturday through Sept. 1. COSI said it's an effort for guests to get a look at the "ocean's most awe-inspiring — and misunderstood — creatures." It includes dozens of life-sized models, immersive media experiences and hands-free interactives.
The exhibit will highlight more than 450 million years of evolution and the importance of sharks, rays, skates and more.
“Sharks are often portrayed as villains in movies, but they play a vital role in maintaining the balance of ocean ecosystems,” said Josh Sarver, chief experience officer at COSI. “This exhibition helps flip the narrative. It invites guests of all ages to see sharks in a new light—less like monsters and more like marvels of nature. We’re excited to bring this world-class experience to Central Ohio and spark new conversations about science, conservation and our shared planet.”
Aside from helping visitors understand sharks more, it also highlights the threats humans pose to sharks, such as overfishing, habitat destruction and climate change.
