That’s why the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services issued a reminder via press release that those using the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) who had food go bad during the outage are eligible to have those benefits replaced.

“Households that lost food purchased with SNAP benefits due to a power outage of four hours or more can apply to receive replacement SNAP benefits for the amount of food the household lost, as long as it does not exceed their monthly allotment,” the release reads. “Replacement SNAP benefits will be added to the Ohio Direction Card of the recipients.”

In order to receive the replacement, interested individuals must complete JFS Form 07222 no more than 10 days after the food was lost. That form can be submitted with the County Department of Job and Family Services.

They also recommend you send in proof of the power outage in your area, as the department will need to confirm it in order to offer the benefits replacement.
