CLEVELAND — The National Weather Service confirmed at least five tornadoes touched down in northeast Ohio during the Aug. 6 storms.

  • One hit the Bedford/Valley View area, another one stretched from Avon Lake to Rocky River, the third went from Brecksville to Peninsula, the fourth landed in the Kirtland-Chesterland area and the fifth hit Bay Village to West Lake

  • No injuries or deaths were reported for any of the tornadoes

NWS said a tornado hit the Bedford/Valley View area. It has been rated as an EF-1 tornado with an estimated peak wind speed of 104 mph. Damage to structures and trees was reported along the 17-mile path.

The second tornado started in northeast Lorain County near Avon Lake and traveled east into Cuyahoga County to Rocky River. NWS rated this tornado as an EF-1 with an estimated peak wind speed of 110 mph. Widespread tree damage and damage to multiple structures has been reported, along with snapped power poles and downed lines. 

The third EF-1 tornado ripped through parts of Summit County, from Brecksville to Peninsula. It traveled 3.3 miles with a max wind speed of 104 mph. NWS said the tornado began at a commercial warehouse along Columbia Road, and ended on the north side of the I-80 Cuyahoga Valley Bridge in Richfield.

The fourth tornado hit the Kirtland-Chesterland area. NWS rated it as an EF-1 with an estimated peak wind speed of 110 mph. It began in Lake County and ended in Chesterland, spanning a path of 4.79 miles. A couple of houses were affected after tree damage was reported. 

The fifth tornado struck near Bay Village to West Lake and was rated an EF-1. Wind speeds were measured around 110 mph and tree damage was reported,

No injuries or deaths were reported for any of the tornadoes. Tuesday night's storms ripped through the region, resulting in more than 470,000 power outages at the height of it all. 

NWS crews have been surveying damage in several cities in northeast Ohio. The five tornadoes confirmed now bring the state's total tornado count for this year up to 70.
