"Traffic has been crazy though, not going to lie, [it has been] backed up," said Stoughton resident Donte Tyler "We were stuck in traffic for like 30 minutes at standstill, but we got moving here and I finally got to use the bathroom here at McDonald's."
"I just sat in about 20 minutes of traffic," said Framingham resident "Miranda DeGello. "We stopped to let my dog use the bathroom."
According to AAA, nearly 71 million people will travel 50 miles or more between now and next weekend for the Independence Day holiday on Thursday, which would be a 5% increase from last year.
Saturday morning saw travelers taking the highway to get started on their Fourth of July as well as other weekend plans.
"We're going to Six Flags, me and my friends," said Mansfield resident Dominic Franco.
"We're going to down to Connecticut for the fire and to see my boyfriend," DeGello said.
"I'm on my way to Connecticut just to see some family," Tyler said. "Nothing crazy for the Fourth of July just enjoying the vibes."
AAA also predicts more than 60 million people will travel by car during the Fourth of July week.
Whether its sitting through a few more traffic jams or making an extra pit stop, these travelers say they're looking forward to the holiday weekend.
"I'm most looking forward to just spending time with family, eating some good food and relaxing," Tyler said.
"Definitely hanging out with good friends, good food, and some awesome fireworks," DeGello said.
"I have to work on the Fourth, but I work at a country club in Lexington and we're going have a fireworks show. So I'm looking forward to that," said Kentucky Resident Tyler Walter.
Looking at the week ahead. AAA says there could be an increase in traffic on Sunday with families making a week-long vacation out of their Fourth of July celebration. AAA recommends giving yourself additional time on the roads this week.
