WESTFIELD, Mass.- As Halloween approaches, Kosinki Farms said they've had a strong harvest of pumpkins and plenty of fall spirit.
"We've had a very successful harvest this year as far as pumpkins," assistant manager Elisa Kosinski said. "We've had quite a few pumpkins which is great because last year's weather was not so ideal. It was very rainy last year which really destroyed a lot of pumpkins out in the field."
What You Need To Know
- Kosinski Farms is a family-owned farm based in Westfield, Massachusetts
- The farm had a very strong harvest despite the struggle with dry periods
- They also have seasonal recreational activities including a haunted green house and apple picking for patrons
- The farm will close for the year after Sunday until Spring of 2023
The family owned farm has been based out of Westfield since 1983. They have fared well as a farm considering the dry summer we had but it hasn't been without a cost.
Elisa said this year, they've had to spend more money than ever on irrigation. Owner Susan Kosinksi also said the cost of fuel was a major issue this year.
"Yes, it was expensive this year to grow," Susan said. "Fuel especially, but everybody's facing that so it's not just us."
While managing to produce a strong harvest, Kosinski Farms has also made sure to invest heavily in the fall spirit.
From the farms haunted green house, to it's numerous Halloween decorations, Elisa said it's important for western Massachusetts to have a well-functioning farm that also promotes the seasonal experience because it creates opportunities for the community to come together.
"They can go apple picking or just the happiness on the kids faces when they pick out the perfect pumpkin," Elisa said. "It's just exciting for everyone even the staff, the customers, the community to have a place where they can all come and enjoy."
Kosinski Farms will be open the rest of the week through Sunday before closing up for the year until reopening in spring of 2023.
