WORCESTER, Mass. - These days, it's common to spot a production truck or movie set around Worcester.
Edgar Luna, the City of Worcester's Business Development Manager, said not only are the number of movies filmed in Worcester growing, the quality of the movies are also improving.
So far in 2021, six movies have already shot scenes in the city. Compare that to 2019 and 2020, when the city only hosted three filming productions each year.
Luna said Worcester has become a popular spot for Hollywood films because of its unique look and how much the city has to offer.
"We have historic buildings. We have well defined streetscapes. We have sports facilities," Luna said "Anyone who is looking for anything will basically find it in Worcester."
The Massachusetts tax film incentive has also helped bring big production to the Commonwealth.
"It has been demonstrated that they are very effective by the number of movies that have been filmed not only in Worcester, but also in the entire state of Massachusetts," Luna said.
Not only is it exciting to spot a movie star in the city, the recent increase in production has had a positive impact on Worcester's economy.
"The use of hotels. They provide employment," Luna said. "They utilize services in the city. They utilize restaurants and catering services."
Ryan Reynolds and Meryl Streep have been some of the stars to visit the city.
"The city is obviously a city that can compete anyone in the state," Luna said. "Well, actually, all of New England."
Marvel Film Production trucks were spotted in downtown this week. Sources confirm with Spectrum News 1 crews are filming scenes for 'Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.'
Luna said scouts are already looking for spots to film in Worcester in 2022.
