LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The snow may have stopped, but it's still a struggle for Kentuckians as they dig themselves out of inches of snow and ice.
Louisville was coming back to life Tuesday as residents emerged from their homes following near-record snowfall that started Sunday morning and ended Monday afternoon, creating a dilemma for some.
As the city's bus routes and main roads have been cleared, parked cars remain plowed in.
“Snow has kind of created a wall against my car,” said resident Landen Bates.
Bates doesn’t have to work until Wednesday, so he was proactive and freed his car the day before.
“I’m kind of having to dig out two feet of ice to maybe move my car,” Bates said.
Bates lives in the Old Louisville neighborhood. On every block, residents attempted to free their cars.
“I’ve got to go to work tomorrow," Bates said.
With temperatures expected to drop even more, snow banks are hardening to near concrete.
"We get ice, and we don’t know how to handle ice here well, so it’s just creating more issues,” Bates said.
Luci Davis and her friend also attempted to dig out near 2nd Street.
“I have to go back to work tomorrow, so I don’t really have an option," Davis said. "I’m going to have to Uber or find some type of way there even if I’m snowed in."
“I’ve been here about two or three days, and I am going a little crazy. We’re trying to leave. It’s not really working right now.”
