KENTUCKY — It has certainly been cold behind our latest winter storm, but it's about to get even colder as we move into tonight and Thursday.

What You Need To Know

  •  Another shot of arctic air is sliding into the Ohio Valley today

  •  Skies will partially clear overnight

  •  Temperatures will drop to either side of 0 degrees for many

A mid-level system is working down through the Ohio Valley today, reinforcing some clouds and snow flurries as it passes through. Moisture will be in short supply, meaning we aren’t expecting much in the way of precipitation. However, behind this system, reinforced arctic air will push into the region.

Highs today will be chillier than Tuesday’s temperatures. Areas north of the parkways will only climb into the lower and middle 20s.

Skies are expected to clear as high pressure works in, and this will allow our temperatures to drop very efficiently tonight. By early Thursday morning, temperatures will have fallen to around zero for areas with a decent snowpack on the ground. Many will be just below zero. Thankfully, there won’t be much of a wind chill effect with fairly light winds, but any light breeze will make it feel 5-7 degrees colder.

After another chilly day Thursday, we’re headed into another brutally cold Thursday night before temperatures moderate some Friday into the weekend as our next system arrives.
