  • If you must travel, drive slowly and give salt trucks and plows space to clear the roads

  •  KYTC will focus on clearing major roads before working on seconday pathways

In northern Kentucky, crews with the KYTC have spent months preparing for a large snowfall. Chief district engineer Robert Yeager emphasized the initial focus will be on clearing major roadways, including highways and high-traffic areas.

“If it snows a few inches an hour, we’re going to concentrate on our major roads,” Yeager explained. “Some of our secondary roads then don’t get treated until we have the major roads back up.”

This could cause issues for people who are traveling and businesses that plan to stay open. Yeager said if you can, stay at home.

He added, “If we get anything anywhere close [to heavy snowfall] schools will be closed. There’ll be a lot of [businesses] closed.”

Yeager said if you must go out, he stressed the importance of driving slowly and being mindful of the salt trucks.

“If you see the flashing lights, if you see trucks coming at you... try to give them as much courtesy as you would an emergency vehicle, because they are an emergency vehicle,” he said. “Slow down, let them get around you.”

He also said make sure your care is “road ready.”

“Make sure... your tires are in good shape. You have plenty of gas.”

Crews will work around the clock to ensure that everyone can make it home in the storm.
