Churchill Downs confirmed the draw will take place Saturday, April 27, a full week before the 150th Derby. In the past, the draw was held the Monday before the race in 2022 and 2023.

“This year, we’re moving entry day for both races to Saturday, April 27, so horseplayers around the world can have handicapping information for America’s two greatest days of racing in their hands one week in advance of the races,” said Darren Rogers, Churchill Downs senior director of communications and media services.

Entrants will undergo two additional days of monitoring and observation by the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission (KHRC) and Churchill Downs veterinarians, Rogers added.

According to the Triple Crown nomination form for 2024, all starters and also-eligible horses must be stabled at Churchill Downs by 11 a.m. April 27. Also-eligible horses will have the chance to become starters if a starter is scratched from the Derby before 9 a.m. Friday, May 3.
