LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Kentucky Derby Museum kicks off the race to 150.

The museum offered all guests free admission to a special event celebrated 150 days until the 150th Kentucky Derby.  

 Once inside, the fun continued. The first 150 guests at the museum received a free leather coaster and a commemorative pin.

The featured entertainment included a live painter, family activities, a happy hour and hat shopping.

Gov. Andy Beshear, D-Ky., said Kentuckians are looking forward to the race. 

“Knowing what a landmark occasion it is, knowing a lot of the trainers, owners and even jockeys now that will be running. Just really exciting about what this moment will mean, and one horse is going to etch their name as the winner for Kentucky Derby 150. That’s going to be a pretty special place to be,” said Beshear. 

Guests were invited to contribute to a time capsule that will be opened in 50 years. Guests dropped off photos or came in and took their picture to be a part of Louisville’s story. 

The 150th Kentucky Derby is set for Saturday, May 4, 2024.
