BURLINGTON, Ky. — Boone County Emergency Management officials are urging people to prepare ahead of potentially severe weather.

What You Need To Know

  • Severe weather is expected to impact Kentucky beginning tonight and could last through the weekend

  • Boone County Emergency Management is urging people to prepare emergency kits

  • The agency recommends downloading the county’s mass notification app for weather updates

Director of Emergency Management Kevin Vogelpohl said communication response can be potentially delayed.

“There could be anything from long-term power outages, delays in response, due to downed trees,” Vogelpohl said. “Just a large volume of calls for emergencies and different things. So, you have to be ready.”

Emergency management said people should keep an emergency kit, including:

  • Batteries
  • Compass
  • Flashlights
  • Non-perishable foods
  • Sanitation items
  • Water bottles
  • any emergency medications

Vogelpohl also encourages people to have a designated place to shelter, whether it’s at home or a nearby emergency shelter.

“Make plans ahead of time to go to a friend’s house, go to a family member’s house,” Vogelpohl said. “Find a place you can go. Not every place has, shelters available. So make those plans ahead of time.”

The agency also said residents should download their county’s mass notification app to receive emergency updates in the event they can not hear severe weather alarms.
