LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg, D-Louisville, is launching an action plan for street safety. The plan aims to outline action projects that would enhance walkability and safety for pedestrians.
According to a press release, the plan will serve as a blueprint for capital improvement projects over the next several years.
The mayor is holding an open house and kickoff event to launch the plan. The event will be held on Tuesday, March 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Louisville Free Public Library’s Main Library.
“We are taking a look at roads across the city to see how we can create safer and healthier streets in our neighborhoods,” said Greenberg. “We are already working to improve connectivity and walkability on Broadway, Ninth Street and Market Street. This plan is a crucial step toward not only enhancing walkability but promoting economic development across downtown and NuLu.”
The event will include a presentation from walkability expert Jeff Speck, who co-founded Speck Dempsey, and a member of the planning consultant team. Stantec, Speck Dempsey and Taylor Siefker Williams Design Group are all companies on the consulting team leading the plan.
The public will engage in discussions with city representatives, provide input on future street projects and learn more about specific initiatives designed to improve pedestrian safety and walkability in the area.
The event will also offer interactive displays and informative sessions on the plan’s goals and strategies.
