BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — While other cities in the commonwealth are still dealing with snow from earlier this week, Bowling Green barely has much left.

But that will likely change Friday, as the city could see as many as six inches of snow.

What You Need To Know

  • Bowling Green is gearing up for more snow, as the city could see as many as six inches Friday

  • Snowplows will hit the road at 5 a.m., possibly even earlier if the snow comes sooner than expected

  • Crews will likely will put down 300 to 400 tons of salt beginning Friday

Andy Souza, public works director, is leading the effort to ensure safe road conditions.

“The city owns 10 big snowplows, so those are prepped and ready," Souza said. "Today, we put the blades on the front, so we’re going to be able to push that snow out of the way.”

Crews will likely will put down 300 to 400 tons of salt beginning Friday.

“It’s 139 pounds per ton, so take that and times it by 200, 300 or 400," Souza said. "That will get you a rough ballpark.”

Snowplows will hit the road at 5 a.m. and possibly even before if the snowstorm comes earlier than expected. They will carry 6 tons of salt in each bed of the truck.

The public works department will use a road map as its method to the madness. It is prioritizing roads that police use to respond to 911 calls and hospitals use to transport patients, followed by commonly used roads. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will follow a similar order, starting with highways first.
