BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Another cold day in the commonwealth has led to another warming center, this time at a vintage movie theater.
“They have food, snacks, hand warmers, anything you can think of to help people," said volunteer Tiffany West at the Capitol in Bowling Green.
Kristopher York, Goodwill Industries volunteer, said he knows firsthand what many Kentuckians are experiencing.
"I’ve been homeless myself," York said. "That’s why I love the job I have today because I get to give back and show people I have had the same experience. I went through the same things they went through."
The warming center at the Capitol will be open Wednesday and Thursday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. with bitter cold temperatures expected to continue. York said he and others plan to keep helping people stay warm.
"It means love; it means compassion," York said. "We need our community to come together to get people off the streets because it’s freezing out there.”
Another warming center will open Friday, Jan. 10 at Wellness Connection in Bowling Green from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
