LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Sherman Minton Renewal project announced all three lanes on both decks of the Sherman Minton Bridge are now open to traffic during daytime hours.
The announcement comes as construction for the long-term bridge renovation is coming to a close. In September, the team announced all lanes would be open by mid-November and construction would be completed this fall. They say the project will near completion in late November.
“Drivers have patiently awaited this milestone, and we know that full weekday access to the bridge is a relief,” said Danny Corbin, Indiana Department of Transportation project manager. “Aside from a final daytime bridge inspection in November to conclude the project, drivers should expect three open lanes during their weekday commutes.”
The remaining construction activities will take places during weekend or overnight hours.
“We greatly appreciate the public’s patience and support for this major rehabilitation project that will add up to 30 years of life to this vital community connector,” said Royce Meredith, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet project manager.
The Sherman Minton Renewal project is a multi-phase rehabilitation project to the 61-year-old bridge. The first construction phase began in 2021.
