LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Greater Galilee Church, through the Galilee Community Development Corporation, is doing an expansion project with the hope of bringing more economic and sports opportunities to west Louisville.
Dozens attended an event Sept. 22 to celebrate the organization’s new sports pavilion.
“The importance of a rec center like this, connected to a church … is amazing for our community,” said Chris Davis, a resident of Louisville's West End.
The initiative is one way the organization is trying to reduce violence.
“We were able to take a dilapidated gas station, which was right here, and make it into this beautiful pavilion," said Eric A. Johnson, executive director of Galilee Community Development Corporation. "We’re going to use this pavilion as a multipurpose facility for these guys to play basketball, to hang out with us."
The pavilion is across from the Greater Galilee Church. The organization aims to complete the project by the end of October.
