LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Louisville Metro Animal Services has over 700 animals in its care at the shelter and in foster homes. Stephanie Jackson with LMAS says caring for so many animals is no easy task. That’s why the agency is partnering with Kroger for its pet supply drive.

  • Five Kroger  stores in Louisville are accepting donations through June 17

“The main purpose of this drive is to get items that we don’t always have, and excess of things like high value treats for dogs that are super scared, like cans, spray cheese it’s a high value treat that they really enjoy. Things like coconut oil are used in our medical department for animals with skin issues they can take orally or topically. So a lot of stuff on there like that. We also have dog food and cat food, which we use to help people in our community who need that as well,” said Jackson.

Jackson says it’s one way the community can be a helping hand in the animal shelter.

“A lot of times people think they can only help by adopting or volunteering or fostering. And that’s just not in the cards for everybody. So this gives a hands-on. I can go to the store. I can purchase a can of Vienna sausages, and you’re going to feel really good about it,” said Jackson.

There are five Kroger locations in Louisville where items can be dropped.

“It’s things like Vienna sausages, dog treats, cat treats, dog food, cat food, things that you can purchase and just drop in the bin on your way out,” said Jackson.

Jackson says they are always accepting monetary donations through Friends of Metro Animal Services.

“That money will go toward public spay and neuter and public micro-chipping. And that’s an effort to lower overcrowding and overpopulation in our community, as well as get animals reunited with their families faster,” said Jackson.

Jackson says the community can help make a difference in an animal’s life.

“Simple things like purchasing a 99 cent can of Vienna sausages or a $4 bag of treats may not seem like a huge impact, but it truly is. You don’t have to be here to make a difference,” said Jackson.
