The drive is scheduled to run from June 3-17 and intends to highlight LMAS’s efforts to reunite lots pets with their owners, decrease the population of unwanted animals and prevent dangerous animal encounters within the community.

“The Kroger Co., Louisville Division is proud to partner with Metro Animal Services to help support houseless pets in our community,” said Jessica Sharp, corporate affairs manager. “Through Kroger Community Rewards, our customers support local animal shelters with their shopping, and we’re honored to continue that support by donating the most needed essentials to shelter pets.”

Louisville Metro Councilman Scott Reed, R-District 16, joined LMAS and Kroger to promote the effort. “I am proud to join LMAS and Kroger to assist in this partnership, which encourages a more compassionate, responsible, and safe community for people and our beloved pets,” he said.

“By rallying our community together, we can make a profound difference in the lives of shelter animals, ensuring they receive the extra care and support they deserve,” said LMAS Interim Director Adam Hamilton. “With the help of Kroger, Councilman Reed, and our community, I know this donation drive will greatly impact the lives of shelter pets and owned pets around our city.”

Donation items like puppy pads, pet food and treats can be conveniently purchased and deposited into designated bins at select Kroger locations throughout the area. Items can also be purchased and delivered to LMAS directly through the Kroger App. Contributions can also be made directly to Friends of Metro Animal Services.

Funds raised through the initiative will be earmarked to support free micro-chipping and spaying/neutering services provided by LMAS. The animal shelter said these services help the safe return of lost pets to their owners and address the stray animal overpopulation in the community.
